Miari Texas is one of the most well known red light districts in Seoul for Korean guys looking for a good time even if it is also one of the dingiest areas of the city. While the area certainly doesn’t cater to foreigners there are many shops in the district that will welcome non-Koreans into their doors especially if there are no other Korean customers around to see it.
The Miari Texas red light district is reached by going out of Exit 10 of Gireum Station, walking straight out and then going through a set of long curtains that cover the alleyway entrance on the right only meters away. While one could be forgiven for not knowing why lies behind the curtains it is difficult to believe anyone who was actually looking for the entrance would miss it.
Once through the curtains customers find themselves in a set of alleyways open only to foot traffic. Miari Texas isn’t like most other red light districts in Seoul (or Amsterdam) as there are no glass windows with women standing behind them. Instead it is more like Hooker Hill with the women waiting inside of closed buildings. Each building is managed by an ajumma who stands outside and tries to encourage customers to enter. Many of the ajumma managers will ignore foreigners all together but some will warmly welcome them inside.
If customers enter one of the buildings they we see one or more well dressed Korean women waiting. They can then either select a woman or move on to another building. Customers who agree pay the fee for entry, take off their shoes then head upstairs.
Rates are flexible and up for negotiation but the most common prices given to foreigners fall in the range of 90,000 – 100,000 Won for a session. This typically includes oral and full service in a small bed room up a set of stairs. The rooms are generally clean but small with a mattress on a floor and some girly bedroom decorations around. The rooms are only partially illuminated by dim red lighting.
The women who work in Miari Texas are mostly in their twenties or thirties and generally attractive even if they do show some signs of wear. They are usually affable and accommodating but service tends toward the mechanical. Sessions typically last less than thirty minutes with the management keeping track of the time and knocking on the door if a meeting goes on too long.
Places in the red light district keep their own hours but they have a tendency to open early and close late even in the dead of winter or strong heat of summer.

Update: as reported here in September 2017, the Miari Texas redlight district has banned foreigners.
